The king of Wei, Cho Sai-cheong (Lee in cross-dressing role), wages war on Shu, but its king, Lau Chen-kei (Tang Bik-wan in cross-dressing role) indulges in debauchery while his kingdom is in peril. Though heavily pregnant, Lau's wife Cuckoo (Yu Lai-zhen) takes it upon herself to lead the troops to the front. Captured after giving birth to a son on the battlefield, Cuckoo bears the humiliation of being taken as Cho's consort. Meanwhile, the beleaguered Lau, who is presumed dead, flees and becomes a monk. He meets his son siyuk (Fung Bo-bo) eight years later but shies away from acknowledging him. Lau and Cuckoo are finally reunited but their rendezvous is interrupted by Cho, who makes an unwitting Tsi-yuk kill his own father. Cuckoo manages to divulge the truth before sacrificing her life in the cause. Tsi-yuk honours his mother's last wishes and avenges her kingdom, while the bereaved Lam abdicates and passes the crown to his worthy successor.
