A co-production between Lan Kwong Film Company and South Korea's Hanyang Film Company, this fantasy epic based on The Journey to the West was the first Cantonese film of Hong Kong shot on Eastmancolor and in widescreen. In this chapter of the saga, monk Tong and his disciples are captured by Red Boy (Tsui Siu-ming), the son of Monkey King's sworn brother Bull King. At just nine years old, Siuming doesn't have to play at being an adult to get on the audiences' good side. Instead, the young star is at once terrifying and lovable as the young villain, using his adorable side to lure his prey before fluidly transforming into the monster he is.
