While making their way home, Scholar Tong (Lam Kar-sing) and his servant Hong (Leung Sing-po) encountera pretty lady So-chen (Ng Kwan-lai) in an old temple. Tong immediately falls for her and brings her home with the intention of marrying her, but his mother suspects that her future daughterin-law may be a ghost. When Tong leaves home to rescue his father from a border conflict, she hires a Taoist priest to perform a ghost-cleansing ceremony, during which the wife mysteriously disappeared. When Tong returns to find that So-chen has gone missing, he turns to Imperial Magistrate Lord Bao (Lan Chi Pak), who takes him to the "Mirror of Revenge" to get the answers he seeks. Director Ling Wan blends together the mise-en-scène of a period horror film, the action from a wuxia film and even a Cantonese Opera sequences to create an entertaining package that grips the audiences' attention from beginning to end.
