Tailor Lin Fu (Peter Chen Ho) asks orphan girl Danying (Linda Lin Dai), the object of his affection, to model in his fashion show. Despite the objections of the director, the girl walks the runway for the sake of raising funds for the orphanage's renovation. Danying's puritanical upbringing that is starkly at odds with the glittering, opulent world of fashion is reflective of the collision of the old and new in the 1950s Hong Kong. Lin's Danying is a modern woman of many virtues: innocent and thrifty and yet glamorous and chic if need be. The two catwalk shows are merely a pretext for setting up the stage for Lin to strut her stuff as she rocks a variety of looks and outfits, ranging from ethnic-inspired costumes to posing as a plastic doll, looking every inch the supermodel of today!
