Yan Ermei (Hsia Moon) spurns her coterie of rich suitors in favour of Hou Kesheng (Fu Che). In defiance of her parents who desire to marry her into wealth, she repeatedly tries to fob them off – faking suicide, recruiting a mediator and every other means until she reaches the legal age of marriage. But when the father pulls a few strings and has Hou transferred abroad, she concocts her engagement to her godfather Hou Yili (Bao Fong), his father's boss and Hou's uncle. To her horror, the old man falls for Yan, forcing the runaway bride to hide out in an inn where, unwittingly, the lovelorn Hou is lodging. Hsia's alluring, magnetic personality and her sizzling onscreen chemistry with Fu, coupled with the aesthetically pleasing scenery and cinematography, makes the film a tasty comic treat.
