In the 1960s and 1970s, Inoue Umetsugu was a rather prolific Japanese director of Shaw Brothers. He made 17 films in Hong Kong in five years, meeting the requirements of the film company. When songstress Betty Ting Pei comes to Hong Kong from Taiwan to look for her lost younger sister, she meets the composer Yang Fan and lodges at an apartment for ladies. The man-hating landlady Ouyang Shafei represents moral rigidity, while the young ladies are bold new women. The prison-like apartment for ladies cannot confine their youthful vitality. Inoue Umetsugu came to fame in Japan in the 1950s. In 1966, he joined Shaw Brothers with a Japanese production crew. His directing method was more advanced, as evidenced by this film.
