Peter Pan Lei is a Taiwanese novelist. He made films for Shaw Brothers in Taiwan and recently published his memoirs. Ding Menghao (Lu Ping), nicknamed the "Fastest Sword", kills every swordsman who challenges him. In order to cure him of his arrogant ways, an old sage (Lu Wei) challenges him to a fight on the condition that he submits to training under him for three years. Ding keeps his word and becomes his protégé, undergoing painstaking training of copying scriptures and carving stones. At the end of three years, his master sends him off with the words: "If you want to live, you have to die once." The Fastest Sword becomes a carver and lives in anonymity. However, in the violent jianghu, everyone is burdened by fame and the ambition to be No.1. In the end, he has to accept a challenge to a duel and to die once.
