Golden Swallow (Cheng Pei-pei), a general's daughter, is tasked with rescuing her brother from bandits. Along the way, she is secretly helped by a drunken warrior (Elliot Yueh Hua) who is actually a martial arts master in disguise. Combining the music of Beijing Opera with fast-paced action, King Hu's wuxia classic was a groundbreaking work that would become one of the most influential films of the genre. Japanese cinematographer Ho Lan-shan (aka Tadashi Nishimoto) brings a thrilling sense of realism to the action scenes, striking a delicate balance with Hu's poetic vision of the wuxia world. Made on a modest budget with mostly existing sets (with the exception of the inn) and new actors, Come Drink with Me was one of Shaw Brothers' biggest box office miracles.
