After joining Shaw Brothers for a few years, Jenny Hu of mixed Chinese and German blood became a big star with her mysterious and wild charm. Following the success of Summer Heat (1968), she plays a mysterious songstress Fang Biyu loved by two brothers Wei (Chin Han) and Jun (Tsung Hua). After freeing herself from the clutches of gangsters, she gives her heart to Wei. Tragedy comes knocking on the door when one of the gangsters comes out of prison, and Wei dies in a car accident. Blamed for her husband's death, Biyu is forced to go back to singing to make a living, but hopes to reunite with her son and returns to the family one day. The plot with its many twists delicately depicts the wrongs suffered by the pure-hearted songstress. Talented director Chun Kim's was noted for his achievements in Cantonese cinema. After joining Shaw Brothers in 1965, he discovered Jenny Hu. While this film was in mid-production, he hung himself in the staff quarters of Shaw Studios. The film was completed by deputy director Ricky Chik. It features five songs, including River of Tears and Tears in a Song composed by Wang Fuling and sung by famous warbler Mona Fong.
