In this classic romantic melodrama, nightclub songstress Qing-qing (Linda Lin Dai) falls for the handsome Peng-nam (Kwan Shan). However, the two go through an emotional roller coaster of misunderstandings, separations and mutual torment. When the two finally fall back into love, Qing-qing receives a shocking revelation that brings the story to its inevitable sad ending. Under director Doe Ching's restrained direction, Lin is hauntingly melancholic and Kwan is tragically earnest. In addition to winning Best Theme Song at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival, the film also earned Lin her fourth best actress prize at the awards. Her performance as the tragic songstress who makes the ultimate sacrifice for love still earns more than a few tears, and knowing the short-lived romance of Lin's real life makes this film all the more haunting today.
