1967 / B&W / D Beta / Cantonese / 109min
Bunny Girl is Nancy Sit's first turn as leading woman, playing a feisty ghetto lass, and Lui Kay is there to be her handsome carrot. Lui, with his delicate features and genteel presence, is the perfect love interest at a time when Cantonese cinema was catering exclusively to women. He plays the role of a well-bred son of a wealthy family, who takes on Sit as a project, teaching her how to read and write. When his family opposes, he strikes out on his own, making a meager living as, of all things, a martial arts novelist and falling seriously ill in the process... Look for Alan Tang, another of our featured charmers, in a cameo appearance donning a leopard tunic.
