When Hong Kong became one of Asia's economic powerhouses in the 1970's, people from other Asian nations rushed to the Pearl of the Orient in search of economic opportunities. Old Plough follows a middle-aged rice shop owner who spends his life savings to marry a young Thai bride. However, the man's newly married life is hindered by cultural and language barriers, as well as a secret his new bride is carrying. A melancholic, bittersweet portrait of modern women living in a strange land, Choice of Dreams traces the journeys of three Taiwan women in Hong Kong: A singer who would do anything to fulfill her dreams of fame; an unlicensed plastic surgeon who betrays her Taiwanese roommate in order to keep her job; a romanticist writer searching for a sense of belonging as she tries to choose between a poet, a photographer and a playwright.
