Though renowned as a filmmaker who pursues reality in his works, Allen Fong was also a storyteller with genuine, cynicism-free concern for people and their stories. In One Last Shot, a snack vendor in a park dreams of making big money by turning his free tai chi lessons into a school, but he finally chooses to live on his honest life as a vendor. On the surface, the father and son in The Motorcycle appear to be sharing a cold relationship. However, they actually do care for each other deep down – a realization that comes too late. In Nightwalker, a reporter assigned to cover breaking news meets a "wild child" wandering the streets while waiting for his mother to leave work. Over the course of one night, the jaded reporter begins to feel his humanity return as he develops a relationship with the wild child. Through the story of a handicapped athlete who beats the odds, For My Brother is about one man's attempt to stop his older brother from going astray. Telling dramatic stories with a touch of documentary style, Fong would continue to adapt this storytelling approach in his feature film work.
