Ever since Cheung Man-yee took over, Below the Lion Rock gradually abandoned its original sitcom-like style and embraced more innovative storytelling techniques. By depicting a case of forced eviction, Home criticizes the shortcomings of the Government's housing policies and creates a visual contrast between new and old communities in the city. Made in the style of an over-the-top farce, The Opportunists is a cautionary tale about greed that shows the serious consequences that followed the stock market crash of 1974. Produced to spread to news about the Government's new labor laws, Ten Years On explores conflicts between employers and employees through the tragedy of an everyday man. A Family of Three shows a family living a new life after moving into public housing. From the macro to the micro, this series of Below the Lion Rock offered a deeper, more in-depth examination of Hong Kong society as a whole than previous episodes.
