After several years on the air, Wong Wah-kay slowly shifted Below the Lion Rock away from typical family stories to more serious current events and social issues. In Temptation, a newly promoted Housing Authority official is convinced by an underling to take a bribe in exchange for helping a public housing applicant jump the application queue. The first television programme to explore corruption among civil servants, the episode sparked such an uproar that a union even demanded RTHK and Wong Wah-kay to apologize for tarnishing the reputation of civil servant. Playing an important role in exposing corruption in the government, RTHK stood its ground, elevating the social relevance of the show. Taking a considerably more sympathetic view towards the police, Ten Days and Ten Nights depicts one cop's persistent attempt to do his job and track down a suspect to hell and back. Set during a time when superhero shows were potentially warping kids' perception of reality, Childhood is a cautionary tale about the pros and cons of various child rearing strategies.
