In addition to stories about grassroots citizens, Below the Lion Rock also featured true crime stories similar to the CID and ICAC series. In The Suspect, a woman working at a car dealership accuses secondary school teacher Mr. Wong of raping her three years ago. Before he's convicted in a court of law, Mr. Wong is already found guilty by the public as he loses his job and even the trust of his wife. Tragedy strikes when a group of teenagers kidnaps his two children as punishment. A man fails to escape the sins of his father in The Runaway, the story of a building inspector who is blackmailed into taking bribes and hide records of shoddy construction by a contractor his father worked with. In the end, the building inspector becomes a runaway groom when ICAC officers attempt to arrest him at his wedding.
