Both episodes in this programme star the short, homely Au Shu-cham as everyday men caught in misfortune, but the two stories diverge greatly in terms of outcome. In Allen Fong's New Life, an ex-convict decides to start a new life and avoid repeating his past mistakes. However, society denies him the chance to reform, as the police, his neighbours and even his family all expect him to return to a life of crime. Finally, the ex-convict succumbs to his fate and starts a new life as a drug dealer. Instead of passing judgment on his protagonist, Fong lends a light satiric touch to this pseudo-tragedy of a man unable to escape his past. In Wong Chi's Storm in a Teacup, Au plays a housing estate security guard whose engagement to a local newspaper vendor falls apart when he's suspected of accepting bribes from a contractor. Fortunately, an ICAC investigator manages to clear the security guard's name, bringing the story to a happy ending.
