Based on co-star Anthony Chan's own experiences, writer-director Alfred Cheung's second film adds a few interesting twists to the "odd couple" romantic comedy formula. After declaring bankruptcy, a businessman (Chang Kuo-chu) runs off to Taiwan with his mistress, leaving his young wife (Cecilia Yip) alone at their rural home with a court-appointed guard (Kenny Bee). Over the course of just seven days, their feud slowly blossoms into love. But when the husband returns to beg his wife for forgiveness, whom will our heroine choose? Immensely likeable as the bumbling guard, Kenny Bee is the perfect match with Cecilia Yip's comically neurotic performance. Their screen chemistry and Cheung's awardwinning screenplay helped this easy breezy romantic comedy become the first Shaw Brothers production to earn over HK$10 million at the box office.
