Killer Constable is a remake of The Invincible Fist (1969) written by Ni Kuang and directed by Chang Cheh. The plot of the constable chasing down the gangsters and the constable and chief bandit concealing their true identities in front of the bandit's blind daughter is also from the original film. In Szeto On's adaptation, he turns the Killer Constable Leng Tianying into the Dirty Harry of ancient times, who kills without hesitation. Moreover, he expands the treatment of his relationship with his subordinates. The various subordinates of Leng Tianying are given quite distinctive characters, such as younger brother Leng Cunyi who opposes his cold-blooded killings, and Cui Xing who stands by him even though he is about to be married. The ageing Ma Zhong who refuses to admit that he is getting old is particularly outstanding. Unfortunately, the casting of Kwon Young-moon was not the most desirable. Another outstanding feature is the cameo appearance of Jason Pai Piao, who fights over the gold with Leng Tianying. Even though he appears only in a few scenes, Jason Pai Piao is well cast as the cunning character, and the subplot is cleverly thought out.
