After taking much of the northeastern China, the Japanese staged a major invasion into Shanghai in 1932 (called the January 28 Incident). Under the brave leadership of Cai Tingkai, the Kuomintang's 19th Route Army held their ground at the Bazi Bridge in a fierce battle. As bombings commenced, Lai Manwai and a team of cinematographers entered the war zone, capturing the devastation that the bombings left on Zhabei District and the 19th Route Army preparing for one of Shanghai's greatest battles. The result is a comprehensive look at the horrors of war and the brave, honorable men who fought them. For the 70th anniversary of victory of the war against Japanese invasion, the Hong Kong Film Archive has finally been given the opportunity to retain and preserve a digital print of this classic film after it spent more than eight decades in the China Film Archive.
