Law Yim-hing is one of several actresses in the 1950s and 1960s specializing in the virtue of suffering, playing women with a heart of gold but who have to endure long periods of extreme hardships until things finally turn around. In The Story of Lee Sin, based on the Ming Dynasty story The Embroidered Coat, she plays a courtesan who blinds herself to implore her lover, the scholar played by Yam Kim-fai, to concentrate on his studies. Yam assumes the familiar lovelorn persona early in the film, later handing the drama over to Law to allow for the obligatory suffering, but eventually returns to facilitate a happy reunion.
