Cine Chronicles of Wartime—Mountains and Rivers Bearing Witness (2025)

Introduction

To echo the National Security Education Day, the Hong Kong Film Archive presents a free documentary screening of Mountains and Rivers Bearing Witness (2025).

The film is the first panoramic documentary to depict the arduous 14-year fighting in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. The film solemnly commemorates the great victory achieved by the Chinese people 81 years ago after heroic struggle and ultimately triumphed. Through a linear narrative, it faithfully restores the historical trajectory from 1931 to 1945, tracing the path from national crisis to united resistance, and profoundly portraying the perseverance and resolve of a nation fighting for survival.

This programme hopes to offer audiences with an opportunity to revisit history, and cherish the hard-won peace we enjoy today.

The screening programme is also one of the activities in the Chinese Culture Promotion Series. The LCSD has long been promoting Chinese history and culture through organizing an array of programmes and activities to enable the public to learn more about the broad and profound Chinese culture.
