CCPO: Light and Legacy: Sun Yat-sen’s Enduring Imprint

Introduction

To commemorate the 160th anniversary of the birth of Dr Sun Yat-sen, the Hong Kong Film Archive specially presents a free screening programme, featuring the Archive's newly 4K digitally restored version of the valuable documentary A Page of History (1941), supplemented with Chinese subtitles, inviting audiences to retrace Dr Sun Yat-sen's efforts and struggles to unify the country.

In addition, the Archive has produced a special short film featuring interviews with the descendant of film pioneer Mr Lai Man-wai, alongside rare photographs. Through these visual and oral history, the audiences can discover the story behind the acquisition and preservation of A Page of History. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the descendants of Mr Lai Man-wai for generously authorising the restoration of the film and supporting this screening.

In partnership with the Southern Film Culture Foundation, four screenings will bring this historical gem, which carries national memory, into schools and enable students to gain a deeper understanding of Dr Sun Yat-sen's great contributions.

The screening programme is also one of the activities in the Chinese Culture Promotion Series. The LCSD has long been promoting Chinese history and culture through organizing an array of programmes and activities to enable the public to learn more about the broad and profound Chinese culture.
