A sequel to Lumière! The Adventure Begins (2016), this 2024 documentary further extends the cinematic vision of the Lumière brothers, bringing to light a wealth of newly restored footage, much of it rarely seen or previously unknown. It reveals how the early cinematographers who collaborated with the Lumières were true adventurers of the moving image, travelling across the globe to grasp the rhythms of everyday life in the early twentieth century. As with its predecessor, the film is directed and narrated by Thierry Frémaux.

In contrast to the first episode, this film places greater emphasis on movement and visual dynamism. Through sequences featuring ships, trams, trains and horse-drawn carriages, it presents a vivid aesthetic journey that allows modern audiences to glimpse the world as it once was. Apart from an alternative version of Employees Leaving the Lumière Factory, the film also features early comic experiments rich in humour, striking images of military drills, and inventive explorations of light and shadow that hint at the birth of cinematic special effects. Here cinema itself becomes a journey: once begun, it captures fleeting moments of time and space, preserving them in an ever‑evolving world of moving images.
