To mark the second anniversary of Union Film’s establishment, six big-name directors and an all-star cast came together in the spirit of collective creation to produce a meticulously structured anthology film featuring a stellar lineup. Coming from all walks of life, the passengers aboard the Pok Oi recount their respective experiences, shedding light on the relationships between family members, mothers and sons, sisters, spouses, and lovers. Ending with the theme of universal love, the film depicts six different forms of human affection and examines the interpersonal intricacies within.

Wong Hang was both a director and actor. Mother’s Love, for which he conceived a heart-wrenching tale of maternal selflessness tailored to Pak Yin, was the first work he helmed at Union Film. A tear-jerker about a widow who gives up her young son for adoption in order to save him, it tells of her pain of being separated from her own flesh and blood. Meanwhile, Sisterly Love, directed by Chu Kea, opens with a dual narrative that sees Hung Sin Nui stricken by melancholy and Mui Yee searching for a missing person, building suspense. The captivating plot structure gradually reveals how the older sister concedes her love interest to her younger sibling yet remains emotionally entangled. The film’s first instalment focuses on these two storylines and concludes with the ship running aground and taking on water, setting the stage for the sequel on a dramatic note.

There will be an intermission of about 10 minutes between Love Part I and The Sequel.
