Metalworker Mo Dexian (Xiao Zhan) retreats into the mountains with his family and other refugees to escape the war, where they settle in the remote town of Gezhi with air defense officer Xiao Yan (Peng Yuchang), left behind by his main unit, as well as the handful of men under his command. Yet the temporary sense of peace that Mo finds with his wife Xia Cheng (Zhou Yiran), great-grandfather (Yang Xinming), and son Mo Dengxian does not last. When a three-person Japanese recon unit arrives out of the blue, a life-and-death struggle quietly unfolds, pitting plebian ingenuity against the might of the military. Against such overwhelming odds, can Mo and his community successfully defend their newfound home?
