Unemployed brother and sister Sung (Leung Sing-por) and Chu (Leung Mo-sheung) are having no luck finding jobs. Sung pretends to be a hotel manager, hoping to meet potential benefactors, but instead, he runs into Fung (Fung Wong Nui), a swindler also trying her luck. Are they destined to become partners for life?
The song by the same title was released in 1952 and became so popular that the film was made. The film’s selling point was its music, and its cast largely consists of acclaimed singers, including Leung Sing-por, Fung Wong Nui, Leung Mo-sheung and Tsui Lau-sin, who all sing their signature tunes. The film also features guest performances from many talented Cantonese opera musicians, some of which perform in full costume. Together with Leung Sing-por’s comedic charms, the musical performances make A Bachelor’s Love Affair an immensely enjoyable production.
Fung Wong Nui appears only towards the end of the film, but she begins singing as soon as she enters the scene. Her appearance leads to a series of comedic misunderstandings, from her misguided attempts at flirting with Leung Mo-sheung, dressed as a handsome man, to her disguise as a glamorous socialite when she meets Leung Sing-por, who is also pretending to be a wealthy man.
Please note that the image quality of parts of the film is short of ideal. We appreciate your understanding.
