What happens when Hong Kong’s high society is haunted by a mysterious figure stealing from the rich and giving to the poor? Enter Black Rose—a catsuit-clad, Robin Hood-style vigilante who leaves behind her namesake flower as a calling card. But Black Rose is no ordinary hero. She is actually two people, sisters who live a double life (Nam Hung and Connie Chan Po-chu). By day, they charm the city’s wealthiest men and slip by night into their opulent dwellings to exact justice.
The story begins with a twist: at a lavish costume party hosted by the sisters, a wealthy guest fakes the theft of a precious ring and frames Black Rose, sparking an investigation that brings an insurance investigator (Patrick Tse Yin) into the fold. As he assists the bumbling police to track down the elusive vigilantes, the elder sister finds herself falling for him, complicating the siblings’ already dangerous double life. Directed by Chor Yuen, this stylish action comedy introduced Hong Kong cinema to the iconic Black Rose and launched the ‘Jane Bond’ trend in the 1960s, featuring fierce female superheroes, including Connie Chan’s unforgettable lady killer character.
