This film depicts the life of Lü Bu as described in Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Wong Wan (Lan Chi Pak) sends the beautiful Diao Chan (Ng Kwan-lai) to sow seeds of discord between Lü Bu (Yu So-chow) and Dong Zhuo (Leung Sing-por), and the younger man ends up killing Dong. Fleeing Dong’s men, Lü and Diao Chan escape together and Lü ends up taking control of Liu Bei’s (Cheung Sang) Xuzhou. Lü helps Liu defeat another adversary, but Liu pledges allegiance to Cao Cao (Lau Hark-suen) instead, and launches an attack on Xuzhou, whereby Lü is ambushed and taken prisoner. While Cao wishes to spares his life, Liu persuades the warlord to execute the young general…

Actress Yu So-chow makes a dashing, charismatic figure in the male role of Lü Bu, while Ng Kwan-lai brings the character of Diao Chan to life with her delicate charm and radiant beauty. Together they form a pair of star-crossed lovers whose romance is as passionate and moving as it is tragic and heart-breaking. The character of Guan Yu features in the film’s exciting Battle of Hulao Pass, who is played by Yu Zhanyuan, master of the ‘Seven Little Fortunes’. He makes a rare appearance onscreen together with his daughter Yu So-chow, and their fight scene, in which they each wield different weapons, is a spectacular display of skill and stage presence.
