White Haired Devil Lady is a tragic romance between two lovers from different worlds, set against a backdrop of wuxia intrigue and political unrest. Zhuo Yihang (Henry Fong Ping), born into a respected family and a disciple of the prestigious Wudang sect, falls in love with the beautiful but eccentric Lian Nishang (Nina Paw Hee-ching). His devotion is tested when he discovers that she is the ‘White Haired Devil Lady’, a notorious outlaw and an enemy of his family. When she saves his life, Zhuo is moved by her heart of gold, and the pair attempt to retreat into a life of seclusion among the mountains. But forces beyond their control compel Zhuo to choose between loyalty to his sect and his love, and his decision shatters Lian’s heart. Overnight her hair turns white, and eventually she disappears into the misty peaks.

Adapted from Liang Yusheng’s classic wuxia novel, Chang Hsin-yan’s film was shot on location in Huangshan, Anhui Province. The majestic beauty of the landscapes provides the perfect poetic setting for this moving tale of passion and betrayal.
