Rickshaw driver Ng Sze-tak (Sun Ma Si-tsang) and Chu Tai-fat (Leung Sing-por) go to a quack fortune-teller (Ko Lo-chuen), who predicts Chu will be rich, while Ng will die soon. Chu wins the lottery, so Ng is terrified. To try to help Ng, Chu decides to get married to bring him luck. A comedy of errors results. Mok Hong-si’s script uses this story to warn his audience about the harms of being superstitious. In addition to being light and funny, it is at the same time educational. The fat and thin combination of Leung Sing-por and Sun Ma Si-tsang makes the audience laugh with their every movement and spoken word, spanning a wide variety of humour but never vulgar, like a Hong Kong version of Laurel and Hardy. The dialogue in the fortune-telling scene is hilarious, and is a humourous portrayal of greedy fortune-telling quacks who try to cheat people out of money. Carrie Ku Mei stars in her first Cantonese film, singing and being romantic with Sun Ma Si-tsang in the film. Their duet of the Cantonese version of Mandarin pop song ‘Yuexia Duikou’ (Duet Under the Moon) is a rare treasure.
