Leung Jan (Leung Ka-yan) from Foshan, Guangdong is the descendant of the Wing Chun school. His disciple Fei Chun (Sammo Hung) is good friends with Chan Wah (Casanova Wong), who works at a bank and therefore nicknamed Money Changer Wah. Mok, the owner of the bank (Fung Hak-on) is in fact a bandit who is scheming to kill the town mayor. Upon discovering their plot, Wah is pursued by Mok and his men. Wah narrowly survives the attack, and becomes Jan’s disciple. Mok sets a trap and kills Jan, his disciples later engage in a series of vicious fights to avenge their master.
Sammo Hung directs and stars in the film, deftly combining comedy with martial arts. Apart from introducing audiences to the origins of Wing Chun, the film also showcases the impressive subtleties of its various techniques. Another interesting Wing Chun link is that historically, Money Changer Wah was teacher to Ip Man, the key figure who later brought Wing Chun to Hong Kong and whose story was also fictionalised onscreen in a series of hit films.
