George Lam and Cora Miao teamed up for the first time on the big screen in this film, partnering up to become ‘Raiders of the Lost Peking Man Skull Fossil’. A fantasy plot transforms Hong Kong’s underground world of the antique street into a treasure trove as a few gangs embark on a crazy treasure hunt with fortune seekers coming from all over the world. Led by what supposed to be a treasure map, an archeological student (George Lam) visits an antique shop and get acquainted with the boss’ daughter (Cora Miao) and two antique-faking workmen. At the same time, the followers of a primitive tribe, the police and an archaeological professor were all after the same ‘Skull Fossil’. The treasure hunt spins out a lot of bizarre plots, as if the protagonists are drawn into a jolly roller-coaster.
Lau Tin-chi's script is full of the situation comedy style of 1970s’ TV dramas. The Mass Transit Railway (MTR) was opened to traffic in the same year as the film’s release, so it was no coincidence that the treasure hunt brought the various gangs to the construction site of the MTR, an obvious attempt to record the historical moment.
