Cine Memories of the War of National Resistance

Cine Memories of the War of National Resistance

To commemorate the victory of the Chinese people’s War of Resistance, the Hong Kong Film Archive presents every September a free screening on the theme of war resistance. The selected feature this year is Roar of the People (1941), one of the Archive’s ‘100 Must-see Hong Kong Movies’. The film focusses on the sufferings of the grassroots of society, interspersed with documentary footage of the actual war zones, giving the film an anti-war sentiment that emphasises concern for the welfare of the poor. The stellar cast featuring Cheung Ying, Fung Fung, Ng Wui and Tso Tat-wah is also what makes the film a classic among Hong Kong’s war resistance films.

This screening programme is also one of the activities in the Chinese Culture Promotion Series. The LCSD has all along promoted Chinese history and culture through organising an array of programmes and activities to enable the public learn more about broad and profound Chinese culture.
