Orig Story: Theodore Dreiser's Sister Carrie
Co-starring: Ng Cho-fan, Wong Man-lei

Humiliated by his wealthy in-laws, hotel manager Sai-wah (Ng Cho-fan) dips his hands in the till and elopes to Macau with Ka-lai (Hung Sin Nui). Their joy is short-lived; his father-in-law has blocked all his attempts in finding a job, and the girl ends up pursuing a career as an opera singer. They cross paths again at the height of Ka-lai’s success, she recognises him in the audience: a lonely and sick man… The composed direction of Lee Tit makes us contemplate the consequence of one wrong decision. But Ka-lai, despite her humble origin, faces her fate with her head up, perhaps a resonation to her real-life personality.
