After the success of Diau Charn, director Li Han-hsiang teamed up again with Lin Dai to tell the story of Wang Zhaojun, another of the Four Beauties in Chinese history. Lin again invests her strong personality into the role, giving conviction to the willful dimension of the historical figure. When Wang commits herself to making the ultimate sacrifice for the Han Kingdom, Lin's pathos of gentle determination and sorrowful dignity bring history vividly to life.
