Chinese history is littered with stories of women who bring down empires by corrupting men of power with their beauty. It is often popular culture which provides poetic justice through revisions. The Last Woman of Shang is the story of one Tan Ji, who supposedly caused the collapse of the titled dynasty. But with Lin Dai playing Tan Ji, the blame is put squarely on King Zhou, not coincidentally one of history's vilest rulers, played by the Korean actor Shin Yung-kyoon. Lin is her usual glorious self, projecting Tan's internal struggles with a gravity informed by charm and sorrow.
