Golden Lotus is an early challenge for Lin Dai's acting skills, requiring her to play two roles, one a maiden from a rich family and the other a lass of poor upbringing, the former a genteel soul who sacrifices her self interests and the latter a strong-willed songstress who valiantly pursues her heart's desires. An outstanding performance that won the actress her first Best Actress Award at the 4th Asian Film Festival.
