Golden Phoenix
Dir: Yan Jun
Scr: Li Han-hsiang
Cast: Lin Dai, Yan Jun, Wang Yuen-lung
1956 | B&W | D Beta | Mandarin | 90min
Golden Phoenix was produced as a response to the popularity of Singing under the Moon, with Yan Jun again assuming the double role of actor-director and Li Han-hsiang as scriptwriter and assistant director who executed much of the directing. Lin Dai again plays a country daughter, who sings in the hill while herding sheep. Yan and Li likely based the character on their star's willful nature, creating scenes that highlight Lin's fieriness, culminating in a scene in which she confronts the villains, all alone, on a raining night.
