A direct sequel to He's a Woman, She's a Man (1994), the story continues as Sam (Leslie Cheung) and his 'male' protégé Wing (Anita Yuen) fall head to toe in love. But their world is again turned upside down when megastar Fong Yim-mui (Anita Mui) enters their lives, stirring up even more drama as they find themselves caught up in a bizarre gender-bending love triangle.

As this follow-up takes the relationship tension and sexual confusion to the next level, Cheung also levels up his acting with a more expressive approach, successfully adding dimensions to his character who is faced with challenges in both his love life and career. Cheung's devotion to the project can be seen in his involvement behind the camera—not only did he direct a few scenes, but he also lent his coffee shop for shooting in this sequel. Mui is basically playing herself as she portrays pop diva Fong Yim-mui (her real name reversed), and her on-screen version of the film's theme song is just as unforgettable as her charismatic acting performance.
