Resource Centre

Books and video materials are provided in the Resource Centre for citizens' appreciation.
Citizens can read about films comfortably in the Resource Centre.

The Resource Centre, situated on the third floor, has an area of about 300 square meters. Some of the Archive's collections are available for browsing in the Centre. Film lovers and researchers may freely read books, magazines and other film-related materials from as early as the beginning of Hong Kong Cinema at the Centre.

Users can search for collection items using the LCSD Museums Collection Management System via the workstations at the Centre or on the Internet. Reservation is necessary for viewing closed stack collections. Subject to clearance of copyright, photocopying and reproduction services are provided to facilitate public's research needs.

Besides, viewing booths are available for use by individual or organisation applicants. Users can apply for an ‘Audiovisual Materials Viewing Card' for viewing audiovisual materials at the Centre.

Internet service and electronic databases such as Wisenews and Film Index International are also available at the Centre to facilitate the public in searching film-related resources.

Most of the Archive's collection items are copyright-protected. The Hong Kong Film Archive does not necessarily hold the copyright for its collection items. In most cases, copyrights of these items belong to a third party. The copyright owner is the only person who may grant permission for the use of the item. Users are responsible for the clearance of copyrights when using the Archive's collection items. Any reproduction of such items shall be made with the prior approval of the Archive, and with the written consent from the copyright owner(s). Our staff are happy to assist users with their search for the contact information of copyright owner(s).
